Prof. Richards to Participate in Stockholm Workshop

Yevette Richards, associate professor of history, will speak at "Feminism in International Labour Organizations," a workshop hosted by Stockholm's Labour Movement Archives and Library, held from June 18-19.

The workshop’s focus is on transnational labor feminist activism in the struggle for economic citizenship and equal pay (1945-2000). As part of the workshop Richards will present a paper titled “The Structure of Women’s Committees: Race and Gender Strategies for Inclusion in Labor Movements, 1960-1992.”  A 2013 Faculty Research and Development Award will allow Richards to spend a week at Sweden's Labor Movement Archives and Library conducting research for her book on the African Labor College. The archives holds records on key participants involved with the Women’s Committee of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.  The leaders in this consultative group sought to expand opportunities for African women to gain access to the educational and leadership development courses at the African Labor College.
