History and Art History Welcomes New Assistant Professors
Professors Hooper, van Horn, and Lebovic

The Department of History and Art History welcomes three assistant professors to its faculty this autumn.

  • Jane Hooper (PhD, Emory) is a historian of the Indian Ocean, especially Madagascar. She is teaching courses in world history and the slave trade.
  • Sam Lebovic (PhD, Chicago) studies the place of the United States in the world and is teaching courses in cultural globalization and the history of the media.
  • Jennifer van Horn (PhD, Virginia), an expert in early American visual and material culture, is affliated with the History of Decorative Arts program as well as art history. She is currently teaching courses on Virginia plantations and gender and material culture.

In addition to these three assistant professors, the department welcomes Stephen Robertson as professor of history and director of the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History & New Media, and Sharon Leon, previously a member of the research faculty and now a tenure-line member of the department.
