Art Historian Wins Award, Will Speak at Conference

Dr. Roeder, who has taught at GMU since 2011, recently published Wide Awake in Slumberland: Fantasy, Mass Culture, and Modernism in the Art Of Winsor McCay.

McKay's spectacular work in the early twentieth century comic pages is unsurpassed. McKay was also a pioneer in movie animation. Roeder's book was acknowledge with the Rollins prize of the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association, for its contribution to the field of sequential art/animation studies.

Dr. Roeder will speak on McKay March 14th at the Smudge Comic Arts Expo in Arlington, VA, at 4 o'clock in the Black Box Theater.
