HIST 499-002: Russian Revolution
(Fall 2015)

04:30 PM to 07:10 PM W

Section Information for Fall 2015

The purpose of this senior seminar is to develop skills in the methods and techniques of historical research and writing. We will approach this primarily via a major historical research paper. We will examine how the historian goes about developing, researching, and writing a paper, including analysis and use of various types of sources. Strong emphasis is placed upon being able to complete a polished piece of historical research and writing. All papers will be on some aspect of Russian/Soviet history, including international relations as well as domestic history, of the revolutionary period (about 1880-1930). Those who have not had modern Russian/Soviet history should see me before class about background reading. Students should be aware that it will probably be necessary to use other libraries in the region. Presentation of finished papers to the class and oral critiques of another’s paper will be part of the class.
