This course is designed to acquaint graduate students in George Mason University’s Master’s program in Art History with the professors who teach in the department and their areas of interest, and to prepare students for future work in the program and the profession.  Lectures and readings will survey the broad history art, with assignments designed to help students prepare for research, professional opportunities, and the comprehensive exams.  The required slide exam for the Art History master’s degree will conclude the semester. This course is required of all first-year History of Art MA students.

Offers graduate-level survey in academic art history led by an instructor of record, with input from full Art History faculty. Participants review the current field through lectures, focused readings and group discussions with relevant faculty member. Participants may read in more depth in areas of special interest. Provides preparation for MA exams and professional preparation for teaching. May not be repeated for credit.
Recommended Prerequisite: Admission to the MA Program in Art History.
Registration Restrictions:

Enrollment limited to students with a class of Advanced to Candidacy, Graduate, Junior Plus, Non-Degree or Senior Plus.

Enrollment is limited to Graduate, Non-Degree or Undergraduate level students.

Students in a Non-Degree Undergraduate degree may not enroll.
