This course is an introduction to some of the major themes in the history of East Asia from the late-eighteenth through the mid-twentieth centuries (1750s-1950s). Although conceived of as a regional history, the primary focus of this course will be on China and Japan. Issues covered will include imperialism, colonialism, nationalism, World War II, the Cold War, and revolutions.
