This seminar is an in-depth study of the history and historiography of the causes, resolution and consequences of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, the seminal event of the Cold War.  Weekly readings and written assignments covering the nuclear weapons policies pursued by Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Khrushchev that led to the crisis.  A “focus topic” research paper is the final and major course assignment. This course fulfills the “1914-present” requirement in U.S. history.
