HIST 610: The Study and Writing of History

HIST 610-002: Study and Writing of History

Section Information for Fall 2016

We will study the way that history is written, researched, and interpreted by focusing primarily on the work of twentieth- and twenty-first-century scholars working in the United States. Most of the scholars whose work we will examine wrote on the Atlantic World — Europe, the Americas, and Africa and the connections among these regions. This class is focused on historiography rather than on a specific region or time period, however. We will discuss the way that historians choose and interpret their sources, the elements that affect their interpretations, and how and why these interpretations have developed and changed over time.
