Charles Lipp

Western Civilization Post-Doctoral Fellow

Charles Lipp came to GMU’s Western Civilization Program from Western New York, where he received his doctorate from the University at Buffalo and taught a range of courses at a variety of institutions in the region. He also spent time in Paris at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales. Dr. Lipp is currently revising his book manuscript: a study of early modern European small-state formation and the development of small-state elites. The project deepens understanding of early modern Europe by detailing places and peoples central to their time and yet largely overlooked today. In his succeeding research, Dr. Lipp continues to explore facets of the crucial though neglected stories of small states.
