Sumaiya Hamdani

Associate Professor

Sumaiya A. Hamdani received her B.A. at Georgetown University and her Ph.D. at Princeton University (1995). Her forthcoming book, Between Revolution and State: Qadi al Nu`man and the Construction of Fatimid Legitimacy, looks at revolutionary politics in medieval Islamic history. Research interests include Islamic religious thought and Islamic law, Shi`ism, identity and Islam in the modern Middle East, and women in Islamic society. Course offerings include Middle East History, Women in Islam, History of the Islamic Mediterranean, Revolution and State in Islam, and Global History since 1500.
