Admissions Requirements

  1. University Application
  2. Departmental Application
  3. Two letters of recommendation from professional colleagues or academic mentors
  4. GRE Scores are required unless you have had your bachelor’s degree for more than ten years or have an advanced degree.
  5. Goals statement that explains the applicant’s academic credentials, professional background, and intellectual interest in George Mason University’s doctoral program in history, and ultimate career goals
  6. Official transcripts from previous institutions of higher education. Foreign students must have their transcripts evaluated by a university-approved accrediting service

University Applications are due on April 15 for Fall admission and on November 1 for Spring admission.  All application materials must be submitted online or sent directly to:
