Art History: American art history

Ellen Wiley Todd is an Americanist, broadly concerned with realism in art. She also teaches courses on the Museum, Women and Art, and Art Historiography. She has published on urban realist paintings of the 1920s and 1930s with a special focus on issues of gender, class, and labor. Her current work continues to address these concerns in art and photojournalism of the Progressive era. Other interests include the relations between art, and film and advertising. She is also a faculty member in Cultural Studies and Women's Studies. Off-campus she is a member of the advisory board for the Archives of American Art.
