This course offers a historical survey of the cultures and civilizations of East Asia from the ancient period through the modern era. Course content will include intellectual, cultural, and political history, and seek to illustrate connections and divergences between the regions of East Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea. By looking at history and dynamics of East Asian civilizations, we will better understand the development of East Asian societies and the continuing impact of historical legacies on contemporary affairs.
