Students enrolled in this course will be introduced to the history of Russia from medieval Rus’ up to the Revolutions of 1917. Through a narrative exploration of the key aspects of Russian culture – geography, culture, popular customs, as well as social and political institutions – we will place Russia’s Rise in a comparative context, allowing for analysis of areas of convergence and divergence from the historical experiences of Europe, North American, and beyond.
