HIST 389: Topics in US. History.

HIST 389-DL1: Queer History of the U.S.
(Fall 2023)

Online

Section Information for Fall 2023

Queer folks have always been a part of our communities but have been excluded from the historical record. This erasure means that we do not have a full picture of our past. With that in mind, this course will cover US history from the founding to the present day, all through a queer lens. We will prioritize the story of queer Americans and queer communities. We will discuss the changing definitions of non-normative sexualities and genders. This course will also explicitly include queer folks of color, including black folks and indigenous peoples colonized by the US. Students will engage with the political impetus behind the exclusion of queer stories throughout the semester, as that is also an important part of queer history.

HIST 389 DL1 is an online asynchronous section.
