Section Information for Spring 2011

This research seminar for advanced history majors is organized around the history of the American West. Course readings at the beginning of the semester will expose students to the overarching narrative of western American history and the historiographical controversies that narrative has generated amongst historians. Armed with this knowledge, students will then spend the bulk of the semester constructing independent research projects using both primary and secondary sources with the goal of producing a work of independent scholarship of approximately 25 written pages. Students may choose to write on any time period, and on any topic related to the American West.
