Section Information for Fall 2011

History 499 is the required capstone seminar taken by all History majors and satisfies one of two university “writing intensive” requirements. The course is designed to demonstrate one’s reading, analyzing, research and writing skills acquired during the course of one’s college studies in history. After several weeks of analyzing documents and readings related to the rise of Nazi Germany, World War II and the Holocaust, students will be researching and writing a 20-30 page paper that utilizes key primary and secondary sources. In addition to researching and writing a major paper, students will be reading and critiquing fellow students’ papers and will give an oral presentation of one’s findings to the seminar. Required texts include: Jules Benjamin’s A Student’s Guide to History, K. Turabian, A Manual of Style, and Jackson Spielvogel’s Nazi Germany.
