Students are expected to participate on the day and time scheduled.
The purpose of this course is to provide doctoral students with an opportunity to do a substantial research paper in an area potentially related to their dissertation. Emphasis is placed on research in the primary sources and a review of the relevant secondary literature. A related goal is to introduce students to the norms, expectations, and ethical standards of professional historians. Students should discuss their topics with their dissertation director PRIOR to the semester's beginning and bring a short proposal, approved by the director, with them to the first class meeting.
HIST 811 DL1 is a distance education section that meets synchronously. Students should expect to meet on the days and times scheduled.
