Section Information for Fall 2022
For the purposes of this course, the "Age of Revolution" encompasses the broad period ranging from the era of the American Revolution through the 1848 Revolutions in Europe, and includes the French Revolution, Haitian Revolutions, Irish Rebellion, and Latin American Revolutions. In consultation with the instructor, students will choose a topic on which to focus their research. Each student is expected to write an original research paper of approximately 25 pages based on their reading of primary sources and relevant secondary literature in the field. Potential topics may include any issue of social, intellectual, or political significance, or relate to women, gender, slavery, race, religion, trade, or diplomacy, not necessarily focused on a particular revolution. Topics with trans-Atlantic themes or a global focus are also welcome. Students are encouraged to contact the instructor prior to the first class meeting to discuss possible research topics.
