Horizon Hall 2008
Section Information for Fall 2022
Instead of a traditional textbook the History of Western Civilization is explored through peer-reviewed scholarship. There are two goals, one is to demonstrate how the events of the past shed light upon the present. The other is to provide a solid grounding for intellectual development beyond the confines of the course. The course focuses upon transmitting to the student the tools for understanding complex analysis and for producing analytical composition. The final grade is acquired through an accumulation of points. There are weekly assignments in the form of written work and quizzes. Written assignments are short, typically 2 sentences up to a paragraph. They are designed to focus the mind upon the details necessary for the development of an argument. The quizzes are open-note and there are no tests.
