Explores modern Latin American history through different types of texts: scholarly histories, historical novels, fictional films, documentary films, and oral history. Explores ways these texts produce knowledge about the past. What motivates different approaches? What counts as evidence? How do we know what really happened? How do we decide what mattered and what did not? Also introduces several important episodes in 20th century Latin American history. Limited to three attempts.
