In this course, which fulfills the university's IT requirement, students will use digital tools to study history. We will discuss how to find, identify, verify, and use historical primary sources on the web, as well as how to create historical arguments using a variety of digital tools for analysis and presentation. We will also discuss ethics and professionalism on the Internet. The historical focus of the course will be War in the Antebellum United States. Using digital methods, we will investigate how military actions connected to American society, politics, and economics from the American Revolution until the Civil War.

Teaches the fundamentals of information technology within the context of a history course. Students learn fundamentals and skills as well as how our society became so enamored of and dependent on these knowledge and information tools. Understanding a new technology requires understanding how new technologies transform the societies that embrace them. Emphasizes the use of free and open-source software whenever possible. Limited to three attempts.
