Section Information for Fall 2022
This section of HIST 390: The Digital Past, is themed "Tech and the Tudors." If you only know one thing about Tudor England's King Henry VIII, it's probably that he went through six wives (and made England Protestant) in his quest for a son. Or, as the rhyme goes, "Divorced. Beheaded. Died. Divorced. Beheaded. Survived." But there's a lot more to the story of England's most-wedded monarch and the century that he and his children reigned. This course will use digital methods to explore the history of the Tudor dynasty, with particular attention paid to how technology can help us better understand the "5 C's" of thinking historically: change over time, context, causality, contingency, and complexity. Along the way, you'll satisfy the Mason Core IT requirement.
