What constitutes an information revolution? Who participates in these revolutions? How does this information spread in society? Who creates this information? Put another way, who controls the collection and dissemination of knowledge? This reading seminar will examine these issues using an Atlantic World framework. We will focus on the sixteenth century through the establishment of the early republic in the United States. Students will read a diverse set of scholarship and will complete an independent final project. The course is intended to serve students with a general interest in the above periods as well as those with particular interest in political and cultural history.
