Section Information for Fall 2016
This course serves as an introduction to historians' approaches to the era of the American Civil War. It explores a variety of facets of the field--political, social, military, economic--by examining some influential classics and some of the most important recent work in the discipline. Written assignments include several brief book reviews and a longer historiographic essay. This course will satisfy the “1861-1914” distribution requirement in U.S. history.
