Section Information for Fall 2016
We are in the midst of a revolution in information equivalent to the invention of movable type. Every aspect of history—from the theoretical to the practical—is being transformed by digital media technology. This course will examine how digital media has transformed the range of historical practice, and the the multiple potentials of digital media for historical work. We will examine software for music, for mapping, for text mining, for database making, and image processing, and also consider issues of copyright and distribution. There’s something happening here, and we need to figure out what.
