SOCI 320 - 001: Globalization and Soc Change

Global DC:  In this course, we will take our understandings of globalization to a higher level by exploring Washington, DC as a global city and as the epicenter of many globalizations. We will start by introducing the conventional ideas about globalization and the Washington Consensus, in which we will explore the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund located in DC. Then we will turn to other globalizations: arts movements, mass social movements, historic preservation, Pan-Africanism, gentrification, and more. The course will involve lectures, lots of discussions, and several self-scheduled visits to specific global locations in Washington, DC. Get to know DC in an exciting way! This course fulfills the Mason Core requirement for Global Understanding.
