Lee Stewart

Lee Stewart is a second year Master of Arts in History student from Loudoun County, Virginia. He graduated from Kenyon College in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Mandarin Chinese, and is now seeking specialization in US history through either the predoctoral or enrichment concentrations at Mason. His interests include Indigenous history, the history of radical movements, and environmental history. He currently works as a long-term substitute teacher for Loudoun County Public Schools and plans to teach in the future.

Lee is a long-term assistant teacher at Dominion High School, a public school in Loudoun County. Professor Lebovic writes, “Lee is a wonderful student of history. He is a close, careful and thoughtful reader of the literature, and writes with great clarity and insight about complex historical topics of personal importance to him, as well as deep contemporary relevance. In my course on the history of American democracy, for instance, he wrote a fantastic analysis of the ways that different scholars have thought about the implications of Thoreau's life and work for contemporary notions of democracy.”
