Robert DeCaroli is Co-Curator of an Exhibition Entitled “Encountering the Buddha: Art and Practice across Asia”

Robert DeCaroli is co-curator of an exhibition entitled “Encountering the Buddha: Art and Practice across Asia” at the Freer|Sackler Galleries of the Smithsonian Intuition in Washington DC.

The show opens October 14, 2017 and will run through November 29, 2020.

The exhibition will allow visitors to encounter Buddhist art through the lens of spiritual practice by emphasizing how the objects were used. Drawing on the Freer|Sackler’s collections from across Asia, this exhibition expands the understanding of Buddhism in Asian art through both beautiful objects and immersive spaces. Visitors can step into a Tibetan Buddhist shrine, travel the Buddhist world with an eighth-century Korean monk, visit a Sri Lankan stupa, meet teachers and guardians, and discover multiple Buddhas and bodhisattvas.

Please join Robert DeCaroli for a gallery introduction on Oct 14 at 8:00pm or Oct 15 at 3:00.
