Catherine Olien joins Mason in the Center for Humanities Research (CHR) and the Department of History and Art History
Catherine Olien, the new Associate Director for the Center for Humanities Research

Catherine Olien is the new Associate Director for the Center for Humanities Research (CHR) and affiliate faculty member in the Department of History and Art History. She holds a PhD in Art History from North-western University with a specialization in the ancient Mediterranean. Her research has been supported by numerous fellowships, including a Fulbright Research Grant and a fellow-ship from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. Her disser-tation, “Between Classicism and Orientalism: The Reception of Ancient Cypriot Sculpture, 1860-1900,” analyzed the early excavation, classification, and publi-cation of Cypriot sculpture and its collection and display in European universal museums. Before arriving at Mason, she managed public humanities programming at the American Library in Paris, France. At Mason’s Center for Humanities Research, Dr. Olien channels her love of research and community into organizing campus-wide events and building collaborative projects and initiatives for faculty, graduate students, and the public.
