Brian Platt gives invited lecture for the University of Kyoto’s Institute for Japanese Studies

On February 25 Brian Platt gave a lecture for the University of Kyoto’s International Institute for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken). Platt’s lecture was entitled, “From Mirror to Artifact: The Changing Meaning of Ancient Monuments in Early Modern Japan.” The lecture was one of two lectures on the theme of “Monument and Community.”  The other lecture, by Dr. Sven Saaler of Sophia University in Tokyo, was about monument building and nationalism in modern Japan.
