Dr. Suzanne Smith’s latest book, To Serve the Living: Funeral Directors and the African American Way of Death (Belknap Press/Harvard University Press) will be officially released on February 25, 2010. The book analyzes the history of African American funeral directors and death practices to understand their critical role in the civil rights movement.
