Kierner Joins History Dept. Faculty

This fall the Department of History is pleased to welcome senior faculty member Cynthia A. Kierner. Dr. Kierner received her BA from McGill University and her MA and PhD from the University of Virginia. She comes to the department from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Professor Kierner is the author or editor of six books, including Scandal at Bizarre: Rumor and Reputation in Jefferson’s America (2004) and Beyond the Household: Women’s Place in the Early South, 1700-1835 (1998). She is a past president of the Southern Association for Women Historians.

She is currently writing a biography of Martha Jefferson Randolph and coauthoring a history of Virginia women for the Library of Virginia. At Mason, she will teach courses on early America (including the American Revolution), the Old South, and American women’s history.
