Section Information for Fall 2026

The pre-history and history of humanity on the global scale is explored through lectures, peer-reviewed scholarship, and documentaries. There is no assigned textbook. There are no tests nor papers to write. The focus is upon reading and the comprehension of analytical structure. Weekly assignments are designed to equip the student with tools for the cultivation of one’s intellect. These tools are useful in a number of very important ways. First, and perhaps foremost, working with peer-reviewed scholarship is an expectation at the University level. Additionally, recognizing interconnection between sources is essential for building knowledge. Furthermore, in life after university, being able to discern the strength of an analysis is essential for navigating the content ocean in which we live. Finally, in a world steadily engulfed by AI usage, it is a marketable skill to be able to discern and correct the weaknesses in AI production rather than pushing it forward without question
