Section Information for Fall 2025

This class uses the Papers of George Washington and other primary sources to reconstruct the early years of the Revolutionary War. In part as preparation for the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Papers of George Washington and George Washington’s Mount Vernon have undertaken a public history project, Washington Day-by-Day, which documents Washington’s daily life as he transitioned from Virginia plantation life to commanding the Continental Army. Students will research and write short accounts of Washington’s activities, which will be published as part of the Washington Day-by-Day project. These brief write-ups and other work will involve research in primary sources, historical analysis, and both formal and more public-oriented forms of writing.
