Section Information for Fall 2025

This course provides an introduction to viewing, discussing, and interpreting works of art. The first section of the course will begin with an overview of the foundations of art, including visual elements and principles of design. In this unit, students will learn to discuss “what we can see” in a work of art. The second section of the course will survey major artistic eras, beginning with Classical times and ending with the present day. In this unit, students will observe how works of art function within their historical and cultural contexts. The final section of this course will touch on the art world today. In this unit, students will learn about artists of today. This unit will also briefly discuss issues and controversies in the art world.
