Section Information for Spring 2026
This course introduces students to major developments in US and European art from 1968 to the present. Students analyze art and artistic innovations in movements including post-minimalism, conceptualism, institutional critique, feminism, postmodernism, pictures generation art, performance art, reconsidering history and subjects of history, identity, narrative, and globalism. Coursework includes weekly reading assignments, weekly quizzes, illustrated lectures, discussions, a DC Museum visit and research paper, and two exams. Prerequisites include completion of 24 credits and one course in ARTH or AVT, or permission of instructor.
This is hybrid section with face-to-face meetings and synchronous live video meetings.
