Section Information for Fall 2010

After World War II, the European continent was thoroughly devastated; its cities in ruins, much of its population homeless, its economies destroyed. This course will explore the reemergence of Europe through the second half of the twentieth century, from a continent torn in half by competing superpower alliances to the formation of the European Union and its expansion in the wake of the end of the Cold War. The course will focus on political, social, economic and cultural history, as we try to find a way to better understand this period that has shaped our present world (This course fulfills the 1914 to the present distribution requirement in European history.)
