The Freer/Sackler Gallery houses more than 2,200 Islamic art objects that span 11 centuries and come from the medieval Mediterranean through the Silk Roads of Asia and beyond.
Art historian Lawrence Butler uses four of these objects to explore religion, culture, and the architectural environment in this grand tour of the classic Islamic world.
