War on the Silver Screen Film Festival Explores Love and War

The 4th annual War on the Silver Screen Film Festival will be held February 13-15 at 7 PM in the JC Cinema. In honor of Valentine's Day, festival co-chairs Christopher Hamner and Meredith Lair decided to focus on love--that is, how warfare exploits, corrupts, intensifies, and undermines interpersonal relationships in three World War II films. On Monday the 13th, the Festival will screen Hope and Glory (1987), a lively, powerful, and often hilarious film about how an English family copes during the Blitz. On Valentine's Day, Tuesday the 14th, the Festival will screen a classic 1942 WWII film starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart, featuring one of the greatest movie romances of all time. And on Wednesday the 15th, the Festival will turn to brotherly love and its impact on combat motivation in back-to-back screenings of two episodes of Band of Brothers (2001). It will be a real treat to see this television classic on a big screen! Each screening will be preceded by a brief introduction and followed by a moderated discussion with the audience. All screenings are free and open to the public.
