Alumni Update: Gabrielle Walker

Gabrielle Walker writes: Since graduating, I worked with National Geographic over the summer as an Art Handler on a digitization special collections project of early autochromes.

I was selected as a Smithsonian Katzenberger Foundation Art History Intern at the Smithsonian Folklife Magazine. I’m writing an article about endangered materials for sweetgrass basketmaking and the environmental advocacy efforts of the Gullah Geechee communities. It’s been a great experience collaborating with other researchers, building a community at the Smithsonian, and learning about creative non-fiction writing.

I also was selected as the Nancy Elizabeth Prophet Curatorial Assistant at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Museum. I’m really loving it! I’m learning ways that I’ll define my curatorial practice and love RISD’s concept of a teaching campus. The support and connections that I made at Mason have been instrumental to all these opportunities, and I’m so grateful for my experiences during undergrad.
