Section Information for Fall 2021
In this course we will examine the connections and processes that have created the modern world. Starting around the 13th century and the Mongol Empire and stretching to the 21st century, we will explore technological, political, religious, societal, economic, cultural, environmental and other changes that define the modern era. We will explore the effects of contact between Eurasia and Africa and the Americas, trade, colonization, and globalization, political revolutions, industrialization, imperialism, modern warfare, and the intellectual and ideological trends that still shape our world today. We will also work with primary sources and common ways of interpreting the past. At the end of the course, the student should have improved their analytical skills, critical thinking, and their ability to understand and contextualize written evidence.
