There are a million theories about how Mesopotamia gave birth to civilization, why the Greeks never took over the world, what happened to the Roman Empire, where Charlemagne went wrong, why the Hundred Years’ War wasn’t a hundred years long, how Napoleon could have (should have?) defeated every army he faced, why the Thousand Year Reich only lasted 12 years, and exactly what the Soviet Union could have done to change societies everywhere if they’d just had the chance.

History 100 is where you come to learn about all those things (societies, civilizations, philosophies, political systems, religions, wars) and more - and along the way, pick up or improve the note-taking, book-reading, studying, and critical and analytical thinking skills you'll need to succeed at Mason.

Notes: Students who take HIST 100 may not receive credit for HIST 101 or HIST 102. Offered by History & Art History. Limited to three attempts. Equivalent to HIST 101, HIST 102.
