Travel Opportunities for Art History Alumni

Interested in traveling with Mason’s Art History Program? We have two trips in the works:

  • In June, Associate Professor Lawrence Butler hopes to lead a four-week tour along China’s Silk Road, hosted by two Chinese universities, for 6 hours of academic credit. Stops will include the great cities of Shanghai, Xi’an, and Beijing, and Silk Road sites in western China, such as Dunhuang and Urumqi. Details are still being arranged but watch for announcements from the Center for Global Education at gmu.edu/departments/cge.
  • Summer 2008 in Java and Bali with Assistant Professors Robert DeCaroli and Butler – could it get better than that? It’s still just a rumor, but we are hoping to offer Mason’s first study tour to Indonesia. The tour would combine the spectacular Buddhist and Hindu monuments, such as Borobudur and Prambanan, with dance, music, and textiles from the great courts of central Java and Bali. Interested?
