Jessica Legnini received her PhD in Cultural History from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. Her research concerns transatlantic popular culture, specifically the reception of American popular performance in Britain during the nineteenth century. She has published on American blackface minstrelsy and its relationship to notions of class, nation and reform in 1840s Britain. Her current work examines the role played by popular performance in propagating idealized norms of conduct in nineteenth-century Britain.
