Zayna Bizri earned her PhD in History at George Mason University in 2017. Her dissertation was on military recruiting campaigns for women in the United States during World War II, and how those campaigns affected ideas about gender. Her wider research area focuses on women in the military and the creation and maintenance of social spaces for women within militaries, and how gender integration within the military affects ideas about citizenship.
