Section Information for Fall 2012

This course examines key moments in U.S. mural production, focusing on the allegorical works of America’s Gilded Age and Progressive Era and the nationalist production under the 1930s New Deal. Guided by a series of readings we will think about murals as decoration, and as works whose visual languages address the cultural, social, and political issues of their respective eras. This course fulfills the research seminar requirement.
