Faculty News - Professor Christopher Gregg

Professor Christopher Gregg received departmental funding to travel to Britain and perform research on the Roman army. Over the summer, he walked Hadrian’s Wall (84 miles) and visited military fort sites, museums, and the remains of the fortifications themselves. Side trips to York, South Shields, and Edinburgh also provided fresh insight into the disposition, training, and equipment of the Roman legions. The research will be incorporated into a planned class on the history of the Roman legions within the context of Roman art, which will include major imperial monuments like the Column of Trajan as well as private commemorative funerary monuments for members of the Roman military.
