Sustaining and Expanding Opportunities
The Department of History and Art History creates an intellectual haven for the creative and professional advancement of our students and prepares them to enter a wide variety of occupations. We are successful in part because of the financial generosity of our alumni. We have exciting new opportunities on the horizon that will help students evolve in the 21st-century workplace.
Sponsors can become involved in many ways. For example, please consider giving to our Student Research and Travel Fund, which provides financial support for advanced students conducting research in museums outside of the Washington, D.C. Area. Students will not only work with real objects in world-class museums, but will gain the opportunity to network with internationally recognized experts. This provides our students with extensive career opportunities, ever vital to the competitive job market.
As Tammy Tran, our “Alumni in the spotlight,” says of this program: “Not only did [the travel grant] alleviate some of the financial burdens I had as a student but it allowed me to … travel to places that I would not have been able to for my thesis research. I was able to fly to San Francisco to research at the Ricci Institute, the Asian Art Museum, and UC Berkeley. I could also visit the Metropolitan Museum in New York.”
Tran indicates that the travel enabled by the grant not only helped her thesis research, but also her development as a professional: “These experiences... are all useful at my current job.”
