Meryem Tanis
Meryem Tanis is a senior double majoring in history and art history with a concentration in public history. She is originally from Houston, Texas, but moved to Arlington, Virginia in 2019 and graduated from Washington Liberty High School. During her time at George Mason, Meryem completed a semester abroad in Japan for language immersion, worked as a research assistant on the Death by Numbers: London Bills of Mortality Project at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, and curated the student-led exhibit The Mirage of Ancient Egypt. Meryem joined Club Badminton as a first-year student and is the current President of the club and the Captain of the Division 2 team. Outside university, she has interned at the Office of Art and Archives of the U.S. House of Representatives and at the Office of the Curator at the Supreme Court of the United States. In her free time, Meryem enjoys oil painting, reading, playing sports and spending time with her cat, Tommy. After graduating, she hopes to take a year or two for language learning and career experience before returning for postgraduate studies.
